Our HISTORY

Together we can do more.

All of the local opioid coalitions were born out of a collective effort to address the opioid crisis affecting our region and the entire country.

In early 2017, Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way and United Way of Columbia and Montour Counties worked together with Project Bald Eagle to host community information sessions as a first step to assessing the community’s interest in tackling this issue.

Shortly thereafter, each county decided upon their own approach based on community demographics and infrastructure. From there, three coalitions were born: Columbia-Montour, Northumberland, and Snyder-Union.

Work quickly began on separate community strategies that could address the unique needs of each county. In late 2018, recognizing the power in one common message on the many paths to recovery, the coalitions came back together under the United in Recovery umbrella to jointly promote our initiative.

Each coalition continues its work in a targeted way in each of its communities. But together, we are United in Recovery.
